Criteria

Given our limited financial resources and the increasing number of students seeking financial aid, our policy is to provide financial assistance for academic purposes to undergraduate students who are in need of aid and who, by performance, have demonstrated very good academic achievement. While our awards are not based on financial aid, this does play a part in our selection decision-making process if funds are limited and there are not enough awards for the application pool.

Eligibility Requirements for a JBL Scholarship Award

Qualifications (sometimes called criteria) determine which applicants can apply for a scholarship. Applicants cannot apply until they meet all qualifications. Applicants must meet all of the qualifications in one scholarship group to apply for the scholarship.

Geographical Location Eligibility

The first qualification any student must meet is geographical area requirements. New student applicants are eligible to apply only if:

  • Student presently attends a college in Delaware when they apply regardless of the place of permanent residence; or
  • Student lives in the immediate area of neighboring States (PA, NJ, MD) regardless of where the student attends high school or college. “Immediate area” is defined as living within 20 miles of the nearest border of Delaware.
  • Student renewing their past scholarship award are eligible to re-apply for renewal of the grant even if he/she is not within the geographical area served at the time of renewal.

Student Type Eligibility

Only students attending an accredited college on a full-time basis pursuing a 2 or 4-year undergraduate degree. We do not award scholarships for graduate students.
